Goals: the full reference

Updated

This is the complete reference for the Goals tab in Settings: every number it holds and what each is used for.

New to the tab? Start with Set your yearly goals.

The four numbers a product can carry

On Office Goals, the Annual Goals card has a row for each product line and four columns:

  • Production (#): policies for the year. Home's goal sentence, POLICIES and the product cards measure against it.
  • Premium ($): premium for the year, read by PREMIUM and the product cards.
  • Quotes (#): quotes for the year. Home does not measure against it.
  • Gain / Loss (#): the net change you plan for. It is office only, and the one number that may be below zero. The Annual view of the Goals window on Home measures against it.

How a year becomes months

Saving a yearly number splits it evenly across twelve months that always add back to the year.

To shape the months yourself, press Monthly → on the product's row. The window has a row for each number with a yearly goal above zero, a box for every month and a Total. What you type saves by itself, and the yearly goal becomes the new total. To make a row even again, type a year total in the box at its end and press Split.

A thing to know: saving any yearly number on the Annual Goals card splits the months evenly again for every product and column on it. Hand-typed months are replaced, so set the year first and shape the months last. A person's card works the same way.

There is no quarterly goal or view. To read a quarter, add its three months in Monthly →.

Set from history

1
On the Annual Goals card, press Set from history.
2
Under Start from, choose what the suggestions are built on.
3
Under Grow by, choose Same, a percentage, or type one beside Other.
4
Type over any suggestion, or untick a row to keep its goal.
5
Press the button at the bottom right, which reads "Set 2027 goals" or "Replace 2027 goals".

Start from offers only what your history supports:

  • Last full year, once a past year has numbers on file.
  • 3-year average, once there are two full years. It averages the latest three at most.
  • All full years average, once there are more than three.
  • This year's full-year estimate: sales so far, scaled to a whole year by business days. It is hidden in January.

Only goals that change are saved. A row whose hand-typed months would be replaced is tagged "custom months will reset".

Goals per person

Individual Goals opens on the Team goals table: a row for each person on goals, a column for each product line. Four switches change what it shows: Production, Premium, Quotes and Activities.

  • A name, or Details ›, opens that person's own card, with Set from history, Monthly →, no Gain / Loss column, and their activity goals.
  • Fill goals for the team sets several people at once: from each person's own history, the Team average, or Split the office goal evenly.
  • Take off goals, in the menu at the end of a row, removes someone. + Add puts them back.

A person's goals and the office's are stored separately, and nothing makes them add up. Hover a number on the Team total row to see the team's sum, the Office goal and the Difference. Home reads the office's goals. The owner is not on the table.

Activity goals

Under Annual Goals, the Activity Goals card holds a yearly target for each activity someone is assigned to: an Annual goal, a Per month figure and its own Monthly →. Unlike a product's, an activity's hand-typed months are kept when its yearly goal changes.

Changing goals mid-year

A yearly number can be changed at any time, but the even split covers all twelve months, so months already finished get new goals too. To change only the months ahead, type them in Monthly →.

What pace means

Pace compares what is written so far with the share of the goal due by today. The share is counted in business days, today included: the days your office is open on the Calendar tab in Settings, less closed holidays, or Monday to Friday with no calendar set.

Every pace mark uses the month's own goal, so a month typed high or low paces against what you typed. A month left without a goal uses one twelfth of the yearly goal. See Goal pace and the wins on Home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the team's goals have to add up to the office goal?

No. They are separate numbers and nothing checks one against the other.

Why did my monthly numbers go back to even?

A yearly number was saved on the Annual Goals card, which splits every product's months evenly again. Type them again in Monthly →.

Why is a number missing from the Monthly window?

The window lists only numbers with a yearly goal above zero, so a Gain / Loss goal below zero has no row.
