For the idea itself, see What is a book of business?.

Open it

Open Book from the menu. The page is headed Book of Business.

The owner can open it, and so can a Custom member when Book of Business is ticked in their permissions. A Basic member cannot. The page covers the whole office.

The score

BOOK HEALTH SCORE is a number out of 100 with one of three lines under it: Your agency is healthy at 75 or more, Some areas need attention from 50 to 74, and Your agency needs focus below 50.

Focus: names the weakest factor. The line under it says how far the typed book, sales and leads run, and how many factors were scored.

Change the year

There is no date picker. Beside the score, Every year you’ve been on Agency Edge draws a bar for each year. Click a bar and the whole page shows that year. Hover it for Ended with, Net growth, Book premium and Score.

The factors

Each row is one factor: its name, the year's figure, last year over the same period, Your average and Points. Rows sit in four areas, weakest first, each marked Strong, Moderate, Weak or Critical. Click a row for the sentences behind its figure. How is this scored? → lists every factor.

Your customers, from the numbers you type each month:

  • Customer retention: the change in households this year.
  • Policy retention: the change in policies in force.
  • Book premium trend: the change in book premium.
  • Multi-line rate: policies per household.

Your team, from your sales and your team list:

  • Policies written and Written premium: sales and premium written per month.
  • Business quality: the share of the sales written in the year that issued, and the share charged back.
  • Team capacity: people hired in the year less people who left.

Your growth:

  • Net policy gains: your typed auto and fire gains, added up.
  • Premium per household: book premium divided by households.
  • Life Policy Credits: the year's credits from Life sales. See Rule of 78 and 108.
  • Goal pace: how many office goals are on pace. Shown, never scored.

Your leads, from your leads and the sales matched to them:

  • Lead efficiency: the share of leads that became a customer.
  • Cost per household: lead spend divided by households won.

When a factor has no data

A factor with nothing to measure is left out of the total, never counted as zero.

  • In a year with no book figures typed, the six factors that read them show a dash and not scored.
  • With no leads, no Life sales or no sales in the year, those rows are not listed.
  • With leads bought and no sale matched to one, the lead rows read Not scored — no converted leads attributed.
  • With no goals, Goal pace shows Set goals →.

Your book

Below the score, Your book holds what you typed. HOUSEHOLDS, POLICIES IN FORCE and BOOK PREMIUM show the latest month entered, its change month over month and year to date, and a line for the year. Details → opens the full trend, with All Time and a button for each year.

Monthly breakdown lists the typed numbers by month. Year-over-Year sets each month beside earlier years, and Monthly Notes lists your notes.

What the numbers mean

  • BOOK HEALTH SCORE: points earned divided by points possible, over the factors scored. Customer retention weighs 20, Policy retention 15, Team capacity 5 and each other scored factor 10. Points spreads these so they add to 100.
  • Customer retention, Policy retention, Book premium trend: the latest month entered minus last December's figure, or minus the first month entered when no December is on file.
  • Multi-line rate: Policy Count divided by Households in the latest month entered. 2.2 or more earns full points.
  • Policies written, Written premium: the year's total divided by the months that have a sale, scored against your best year.
  • Cost per household: scored against your own average of finished years. Lower is better.
  • Columns marked same period: the current year runs to today, and earlier years are cut at the same point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my goals change the score?

No. Goals are targets you set, and the score measures what the book did. Goal pace carries no points.

We do not track households. Can I hide that part?

Yes. Until a month has been typed, Your book shows Add your book figures with the link Not interested — hide this section. The score stays.

Why is a factor tagged Rate-driven?

Rate-driven means premium rose while households fell, so the factor earns fewer points.
