Build a commission plan
Updated
A commission plan is the set of rates and bonus rules that turns a person's sales into pay.
Where plans live
Open Settings and choose the Payouts tab. Under Commission Plans, your plans are listed on the left and the one you pick opens on the right. A number beside a plan is how many active people are on it.
To have us build one instead, press Request a commission change.

Base rates by product line
Start with Base Rate. It lists each product line with a Rate Type and a Rate.
- % of Premium pays that share of each sale's premium. At 6%, a $1,000 Auto policy earns $60.
- Flat $ / Policy pays the same amount for every policy.
A line left blank or at 0% earns no base commission.
Differs by business type adds an exception, such as Auto at 8% except Added business at 4%. Override, which shows when you point at a line, sets a rate for one policy type. A sale is paid at the most specific rate that fits it.
Tiers and bonuses
Every other card adds to the base rate.
Earnings Tier pays more as production grows. You choose what to track, what the bonus pays on, and one or more thresholds. With several thresholds only the highest one crossed pays, unless you pick Each crossed tier pays under How It Applies.
A saved tier card names itself: Volume Boost when it tracks and pays on the same product lines, Cross-Sell Boost when they differ, and Rate Booster when every crossed tier pays.
The dollar bonuses, from Per-Policy Bonus to Team Goal, are in Bonuses: milestone, streak, team and production.
Read a plan at a glance
Out of edit mode, each card is a single line.
- Base Rate reads back every line and its rate, for example
Auto 6% (Moto: 8%) · Fire 6% · Life 40% · Health 20%. Brackets hold a policy-type override, shortened. - A bonus shows its label and a sentence, such as Production Bonus and
Every 10 policies in Auto → $100 bonus · Per completion. - Max Possible Earnings shows each line's range, from its base rate to the most the plan's rules can add.
Change a plan that is in use
Edit Plan offers Edit this plan and Create a new version. Both protect history the same way. If sales already use the plan, your change starts a new version dated today and the old version closes the day before. If no sales use it yet, the plan is edited directly.
Version History, at the bottom of the plan, lists each version with its Effective dates and marks the one that is Current.
Agency Edge works out each month on the version in effect on that month's last day, so a change saved on October 8, 2026 prices all of October. Months already paid keep the terms they were paid under.
Assign a plan to a person
You can also start from the person. In Settings, open Team Members, press Edit on their row and choose the Commission tab, where Current Plan has Assign a Plan or Change Plan.
Each month is worked out on one plan, the one with the latest start that covers any part of the month, so a plan that starts mid-month prices that whole month. A start before the hire date, or in a month already paid through Pay Team, is refused.
Anyone without a plan is listed under Unassigned Members, and their sales earn no commission until you assign one.
If you asked us to build the plan, we email whoever sent the request once it is in place. View the plan in that email opens the Payouts tab with the plan already open.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I delete a plan?
No, and you do not need to. Archive moves it to Archived at the bottom of the list with its rates, rules and history intact, and Restore brings it back. An archived plan that someone is still assigned to still prices their commission.
I entered the wrong start date. Can I fix it?
For a person's first plan, yes. Edit start date sits beside the date on their Commission tab. Later plans do not offer it.
What are System Plans?
Plans under System Plans carry a lock and cannot be edited. Use one for someone who earns no commission: it calculates $0 while keeping their sales in your reports.
