Link or unlink a lead and a sale

Updated

When automatic matching misses a sale or credits the wrong lead, you can link the two yourself, or remove a link.

Link a lead to its sale by handVideo walkthrough — coming soon · 1:40
1
Open Leads from the menu and choose the Leads Log tab.
2
Find the lead. The Search box above the table looks through names, vendors and ZIP codes.
3
In the Actions column, press the link icon. Hover over it and it reads Link to sale.
4
The Link Lead to Sale window opens with the lead's name in the search box and a list of sales that could be the same customer, best first. A grey line under each says why, such as same zip or same last name.
5
To look for another name, type over the search box. A last name works best.
6
Press Link on the right sale. A Note (optional) box appears. Fill it in if you want, then press Link again.

The window answers Match linked successfully. The sale moves down to Current Matches, and the lead's row gains a SOLD badge.

If the list is empty, the window reads Nothing close enough to suggest. Try a last name. Pressing Enter in the search box links the highlighted sale straight away, without the note.

You can start from the sale instead. On Sales, open the Sales Log tab and press the link icon on a sale with no lead, which reads Link to lead. That window is titled Link Sale to Internet Lead, and its list is headed Suggested.

A lead can be linked to several sales. Link each sale to one lead only: the window does not stop a second link, and the sale would then count under both leads.

  • In the Leads Log, press the link icon on the lead. On a matched lead it reads View linked sale. Under Current Matches, press Unlink. It is removed at once, with no second question.
  • On Conversions, press Details on a row of the table headed Lead → Sale Attribution, then Unlink Match. The window asks Remove this match? Press Confirm Unlink, or Cancel.
  • In the Sales Log, press Households, open the household, and press the small x on the sale, which reads Unlink match. Then press Confirm.

A linked lead is a converted lead, so the vendor's conversion moves first.

  • In the Leads Log the lead reads SOLD and is counted in the Sold Leads pill.
  • On Conversions the lead is added to the vendor's Leads converted and the sale to its Policies written, which changes Lead conversion %.
  • On Marketing ROI the sale's policy and premium go to that vendor, which changes its Cost / policy and ROI.
  • The lead's relationship word is worked out again from its dates. A late sale can turn a Fresh lead into Aged or Repeat.

Unlinking takes the same numbers back out. To see either change on the other tabs, press the round arrow at the top of the Leads page, which reads Refresh data.

What automatic matching does next

  • A link made by hand is tagged Manual. Automatic matching skips that sale from then on, and an automatic link the sale had to a different lead is dropped at the next run.
  • An unlink is remembered. Automatic matching will not put that lead and that sale together again. The sale itself is free, so a later run can match it to a different lead.

If the lead or the sale is deleted

  • The Delete lead? window says the lead goes with any sale links and that this cannot be undone. The sale stays in your sales log, and a later run can match it to another lead.
  • Deleting a sale removes its links. A lead with no other sale goes back to unmatched. A sale that has been paid is locked and cannot be deleted.
  • Deleting an upload removes the leads or sales it brought in, and their links with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

The owner. A member on Custom access whose pages include Leads can too, but the Actions column of the Leads Log is shown to the owner only, so they work from a lead that is already matched or from Conversions. Basic members do not have the Leads page.

No. An upload works out only the automatic matches again. A link you made stays until you unlink it or delete the lead or the sale.

I unlinked a match and the sale now shows another lead. Why?

Unlinking blocks that one pair, not the sale. If another lead fits, the next run links it. Link the sale to the right lead by hand and matching leaves it alone.

Yes, and it reads SOLD in the log. Conversions and Marketing ROI count billable leads only, so it adds nothing there.
