The trend chart

Updated

The trend chart is Sales Over Time on the Sales page: one bar for each day, week or month, stacked by product line.

Find the chart

1
Click Sales in the sidebar. The page opens on the Trends tab.
2
Scroll to Sales Over Time, under Product Line Performance.

What is plotted

Each bar is a stretch of time. Its colored segments are your product lines, stacked in your office's order. Two switches above the chart set what it draws.

  • Monthly, Weekly or Daily sets how much time one bar covers. The chart chooses for you at first: Daily when the sales in view span 45 days or less, Monthly otherwise. A week runs Monday to Sunday.
  • Policies or Premium sets what the height means: the number of policies written, or their premium. It starts on Policies.

A monthly bar is labelled with the month and a two-digit year, such as "Oct 26". A daily bar carries its date, such as "Oct 5", and a weekly bar the date of its Monday. A day, week or month with no sales has no bar. When there are 20 bars or fewer, each has its total printed above it.

Choose the period

The chart draws the sales that the filter bar at the top of the tab leaves in view.

  • Press the date button to pick a month, or choose All Time, YTD or Custom. Custom gives you two date boxes, a start and an end.
  • The arrows beside the button step a month back or forward.
  • All Products, All Team Members, All States, All Sources and Status narrow the chart to the sales that match.

Choose YTD in October, for example, and you get ten monthly bars. Choose October alone and you get a bar for each day with a sale.

The tab opens on YTD or Current Month, whichever you set as Default Date Range in the Display section of your Preferences.

The legend and the hover box

The legend across the top of the chart is a key: a colored square and a name for each product line. Clicking it does nothing. To see one product on its own, tick it in All Products.

Hover over a bar to open its box. It gives the bar's label, then a line for each product with its policy count and premium, then the bar's total sales and total premium. Both figures are there whichever one the chart is plotting.

Comparing periods

The chart has no comparison line and no goal line. It draws one period at a time.

Compare to, in the filter bar, works on the figures around the chart instead. Choose Previous period or Same period last year, and the four cards at the top gain a change chip, while Product Line Performance and Team Performance gain a "vs" column. None turns it off. It cannot be used with All Time.

To see two years on the chart itself, choose Custom, set a range that spans both, and read the bars on Monthly.

Colors

The colors of Auto, Fire, Life and Health come from your Chart Theme, in the Appearance section of Preferences. Change it and the bars, the legend and the product dots across the app change with it, on your login only. Any other product line keeps one color in every theme. Preferences: appearance, themes and density lists the themes.

Other charts

The Trends tab also has When Sales Happen, with a weekday view and a Calendar view, Sales by Team Member, Monthly Productivity and Sales by Source.

The Locations tab has a Sales Over Time chart of its own, with a line for each of up to six states. Home has a chart too; see A tour of Home.

What the numbers mean

  • A sale lands in a bar by its written date.
  • Policies counts every sale written, whatever its status. Set Status to Issued to count only policies that issued.
  • Premium adds the issued premium for a sale that has one, and the written premium otherwise.
  • The total above a bar, and in the hover box, covers every sale in view. A sale whose product is not one of your enabled product lines counts in that total but has no colored segment, so a bar can stand a little shorter than its number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the chart show days instead of months?

The sales in view span 45 days or less, as they do when one month is selected. Press Monthly, or choose a longer period.

Can I click a bar to see the sales behind it?

No. Open the Sales Log tab instead. It keeps the same period, and lists every sale in it.

Can I save the chart?

Snapshot, at the top right of the page, saves the tab's figures as a PDF: the cards and the product, team and source tables. The chart itself is not in the file.

Why are the colors different on a colleague's screen?

Chart Theme is saved to each person's login, so two people can look at the same chart in different colors.
